Corey Graves grabbed the microphone after his ring days ended and built a name for himself as one of the sharpest voices on sports-entertainment. He was forced to retire from in-ring competition in December 2014 because repeated concussions made it unsafe for him to continue.

Early Life

He was born on February 24, 1984 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended college and earned a degree in marketing. His father is Dan Polinsky, who worked in wrestling promotion, and his younger brother is Samuel Polinsky (known as Sam Adonis). He grew up in Pittsburgh and developed a love for wrestling from his childhood, often attending live shows with his dad.

Career

Corey Graves began his in-ring career on the independent wrestling scene around the year 2000 under the ring name “Sterling James Keenan”. He competed in many smaller promotions, winning championships and building his reputation as a capable performer. In August 2011 he signed a developmental contract with WWE and began working in its developmental system, including time in Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) and then its rebranded territory NXT.

While in NXT, Graves captured the NXT Tag Team Championship alongside Adrian Neville and engaged in notable feuds, showing his potential as a rising star. Unfortunately, in December 2014 Graves announced his retirement from in-ring competition due to multiple concussions and related health concerns. Immediately following his retirement he transitioned into a commentary role for WWE, beginning with NXT and later moving to the main roster broadcasts where he has become one of the company’s prominent voices.
