CNN was given an exclusive first look at the 93-story, 1,066-foot-tall residential structure in Downtown Brooklyn that will be the first supertall skyscraper in the city. Sky Park will be located on the 66th level of the project and will have a basketball court, dog run, and children's playground.

The developer of the project, JDS Development Group, claims that the facilities will be the tallest of their kind in the Western Hemisphere when they are completed at an elevation of 629 feet above ground level.
The design firm that is responsible for these facilities claims that they will open in 2024 on a floor that would typically be kept unoccupied in order to lessen the sway of the structure. This will allow the amenities to be more stable.
These wind floors are performative. We took advantage (of the space). Since the Sky Park is a covered, open-air facility, it will likely be best enjoyed outside of the coldest, windiest days of the year, “hardy New Yorkers” will be able to play on the court “most of the time.- Gregg Pasquarelli, founding principal at SHoP
It is not the first remarkable basketball court that Pasquarelli and the SHoP team dreamt of; from 2010 to 2012, they created the borough's world-famous Barclays Center, which is home to the Brooklyn Nets and is located little over ten minutes away on foot.
We definitely took cues from how we designed the Barclays Center.- Gregg Pasquarelli
He also noted that the two courts’ “vibe” and color palettes share similarities, but that the Tower’s design remained true to the visual influence of the landmarked 20th-century Dime Savings Bank, which is now part of the Brooklyn Tower. (Another amenity the supertall touts is a rooftop pool that extends around the bank’s dome, also set to be completed next year.)

JDS Development Group paid $95 million for the then-defunct neoclassical bank in 2016 with the intention of converting it into ground-floor retail space adjacent to the supertall, development of which commenced in 2018.
In the beginning of this year, residents of the $750 million building known as the Brooklyn Tower started moving in, despite the fact that the structure's facilities and finishing touches are not yet complete.
The skyscraper's towering height and daring facade of fluted black stainless steel have had a significant impact on the architecture of the borough. This can be seen in both aspects of the structure. (The New York Post published an article in May that featured a local resident who likened it to the ever-present fortress of Sauron in Lord of the Rings.)
Pasquarelli claims that the views from the Sky Park and Lounge are unsurpassed since the location is unobstructed by nearby skyscrapers. These views include expansive panoramas of the New York City skyline as well as the Atlantic Ocean, which is just a few miles distant.
On a clear day, the ocean is right there. It feels like a waterfront property even though you’re far away- Gregg Pasquarelli

Final Words

Residents will be able to unwind, exercise their pets, or play dunk against the background of iconic New York City landmarks at all hours of the day and night in the Sky Park. Now is the time to get to know a local, provided that visitor permits are still available.
